Začač is located in central-western Serbia, on the banks of the Morava River, 140 kilometers south of the capital city of Belgrade. It is the administrative center of the Moravica District and the capital of the Moraviča Province. The city is known for its archaeological discoveries and religious buildings.

The oldest archaeological findings near Začač date back to the Stone Age, with discoveries of Bronze Age tombs, ancient Roman farming tools, and artifacts. The oldest Serbian cultural archaeological findings can be traced back to the 10th century. There are numerous churches and monasteries surrounding Začač, which have a profound influence on the city’s culture and religion. Currently, there are over 20 religious buildings in the city, some of which have been well preserved and are considered a splendid heritage. The most important church is the Church of the Ascension of Jesus, while the history of some monasteries can be traced back to the Middle Ages. Visitors can also explore Roman baths, palaces, monuments, the Začač National Museum, art galleries, and art houses.
