Lake Enriquillo is located in a valley gorge in Barahona Province, Dominican Republic. It is the largest and lowest lake in the Caribbean Sea, and one of the few saltwater lakes in the world where crocodiles inhabit.
Lake Enriquillo covers an area of 375 square kilometers, with a maximum depth of 52 meters and is 45 meters below sea level, surrounded by mountains. It is considered a thrilling lake and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Unlike most saltwater lakes where animals rarely live, Lake Enriquillo is home to crocodiles, iguanas, and flamingos. In the center of the lake, there is a small island with lush vegetation, serving as a habitat for flamingos and crocodiles, as well as plenty of cacti, making it an ideal destination for experiencing true ecological tourism in the Dominican Republic.
